- Figure Eight Follow Thru with a safety backup (used when the knot must be tied around an object)
- Figure Eight on a Bight with safety backup (tie the figure eight but with a bight of rope - the resulting knot is the same as the Follow Through but is used when the knot can be dropped over the object or clipped onto a carabiner)
- Figure Eight Bend with safety backup on both sides (used to join two ropes)
- Water Knot with safety backup on both sides (used to join tubular webbing)
- Prusik Knot (used with a carabiner to attach a harness to a lifeline)
- Improvised Harness with appropriate ending knot and backup safety knots (a similar harness can be tied with a loop of webbing; harness must stay in place without being held and while rescuer moves)
